"The sessions with Lesley were fantastic. Having very little subject knowledge prior to training with Lesley I now feel confident to teach Computing to Key Stage 1 and 2 children. Lesley provided wonderful resources, hands on practicals and gave us time to plan for our Year group. She offered wonderful advice in order to increase our confidence in our delivery of Computing. Thank you Lesley!” Liz Garner - teacher trainee

Spring 2015 (Computing Curriculum and Support)

As Computing Subject Leader I have found the service that Lesley offers to be of a very high standard. She is always willing to help a hand and give advice; nothing has been too small or large.

As a school we purchased the Smithills ICT Computing Scheme and put it into place from September this year. We are very impressed with the value of it and how many of the resources that it required were available as free downloads or apps. Lesley has even gone above and beyond to help us with alternative Units of Work when we did not have particular software or hardware. In addition the assessment grids are easy to use and informative.

The service from Lesley at Smithills Consultancy has been invaluable to myself as a Subject Leader and for the teachers who are using the Units of Work as it has given us a self contained new curriculum and ensured that the children are learning everything that they need to know in a fun and informative way.

Thank You Lesley!

Autumn / Winter 2014 (In-class support package)

Benefits of Lesley's support

"Lesley's input has been invaluable to help us begin teaching and learning the computing curriculum.

Her knowledge and understanding has supported high quality CPD for staff and given them the knowledge and confidence to deliver the computing curriculum and lessons.

The progress of children's learning has been outstanding!

What has been interesting?

The simplicity with which Lesley has helped staff to develop their knowledge and understanding."

Philip Ivory, Deputy Headteacher - St George's CE Primary, Westhoughton

"This is true CPD and having Lesley support all our teachers in school has been money well spent. With the best will, teachers don't really have time to cascade central training throughout school and having a consultant in class to model teaching and learning is the best form of CPD there is, very effective and everyone benefits."

Jacqueline Gilbert, Headteacher - St George's CE Primary, Westhoughton

"You got me excited and enthused and consequently the children love it! How exciting computing is. You explained things clearly to me and now I feel more confident using Scratch. I didn't know debugging could be so much fun! - Class teacher

"Excellent teacher subject knowledge. Clear teaching instructions for pupils. Calm, firm teaching manner. Opportunities for children to ask questions and further their subject knowledge and extend learning. Well organised. I am surprised at how well the children have retained their knowledge from previous sessions. - Class teacher

Autumn 2014 - In-Class support package

"Big impact on teacher knowledge and how to begin to teach and introduce programming to the children. Children have been inspired to program at home and develop their skills in their own time! The children have taken to programming straight away and all are now confident to explore and try things out. All children produced a programmed computer game! Thanks Lesley."

Autumn 2014/Spring 2015 - Whole school support package

"Lesley has been supporting our school with computing in the new curriculum. Her one to one support with Vikki, subject leader and staff has really made a huge difference with confidence and delivery.

She has also supported each class teacher with their forward planning and many chose to develop their blogging skills. Since, all classes are now fully involved with blogging and this has had a real impact on writing."

Summer 2014

This term we were bowled over by a testimonial from one our clients and just had to share it with you. We are so proud of what we have achieved and wish to thank Fay (below) for her part in the partnership work. A wonderful school to work in with a dedicated subject leader.

"I have worked with Lesley for 2 years now and she has helped me to develop into a confident and successful subject leader. The training and 3 plus 3 have been priceless, but building the connection and knowing Lesley is at the end of an email if a problem arises is also very comforting.

As a new ICT subject leader I have received support from Smithills ICT for the past 2 years. I feel that with the fantastic level of support provided I have been able to develop into a confident, successful and valued ICT leader.

Lesley helped me to rewrite a whole new curriculum, relevant to our school and our pupils. She also assisted me to develop a realistic action plan, training on difficult aspects of the new curriculum and lots of Esafety advice.

I know that if I ever need help or advice with regards to an ICT issue, I can email Lesley and she will be able to point me in the right direction. Smithills ICT has truly helped me to improve the quality of ICT in my school and I would not hesitate to recommend their services."
